The Power of a Digital Camera

I write to share a personal experience about the power of a digital camera and any digital devices that we hold in our hands every day of our lives. On this date,09 Jan 2012, i decided to test the power of my VG-110 Olympus digital camera.

In the evening of this day in Chelstone, Lusaka, Zambia, around 1900 hrs, there appeared on the eastern side of my back yard, a full rising moon.On the same side in the distance was some thunder storm and flashing lightening. This view was so beautiful and rare, such that my son and i decided to capture it on camera so that we could keep a picture of it. We were not sure of what was going to appear on the screen of our camera because we had never seen a full moon and lightening on the same side.

So each time lightening flashed we clicked on the shutter to take a picture of the view, the first picture that came out surprised us beyond our wildest imaginations. We decided to take some more to see how they would come out, each time lightening flashed we also clicked on the shutter to capture the flashing lightening. We took eight shots all together, all showing similar results.

Below is the first in a series of eight pictures never before captured on camera, not even by NASA. These pictures could reveal something about the power of the digital camera and other devices such as smart phones, camera phones, tablets, Ipads etc never known before.

Lightening striking the Moon

This event was brought about by three elements; Nature in action, imagination and a digital camera. How do we use our digital devices?. If we had not used our imagination to capture this event we would not have seen or known what happens when the moon and lightening are on the same side.

The above picture shows lightening striking the moon, whether this true or not is subject to debate and scientific research/investigation,but what i know for sure is that a camera never lies.

I invite professional photo journalists, scientists, digital camera manufacturers and all the world to analyse this picture and come up with an answer.

Depending on the feedback i shall be sharing the other pictures in the order i shot them so that we can have a step by step analysis and come up with a conclusion.

Looking forward to reading your views

  1. This event was captured for the world to see via a simple digital camera. We have power right in our hands, and we are an empowered generation. How we use that power is limited to our imagination.
